Pretty Red Dress

Thunderdrum founder Hugo Brijs served as composer and musical director for Pretty Red Dress (BBC Film), the debut feature from writer and director Dionne Edwards. Set in South London, the film explores identity, sexuality and family dynamics through the story of Travis, recently released from prison, his partner Candice (Alexandra Burke in her first screen role), and their daughter.

Hugo created a dynamic soundtrack that blends his original neo soul and jazz-inflected score with on-screen performances of Tina Turner classics, produced and performed by Alexandra Burke and Tsemaye Bob-Egbe, along with an original song, “Mirror”, featuring Denai Moore.

The film premiered during the opening weekend of the BFI London Film Festival 2022 and was released in 2023 to widespread acclaim, appearing in year-end best-of lists from The Guardian, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair. The full soundtrack album, including Hugo’s score and covers, is available to stream now.
