Cardboard

Composer Hugo Brijs crafted the score and original song for Cardboard, Locksmith Animation’s first short film, directed by J.P. Vine (That Christmas, Ron’s Gone Wrong). The nine-minute CG short follows an overwhelmed single-dad pig who, despite his fears of failure, is swept up in his piglets’ imaginative cardboard-fueled space adventure.

Hugo’s score weaves warmth, whimsy and subtle emotional shifts into every scene, while the stand-alone song, set for release later this year, underscores the film’s heart and curiosity. The full Thunderdrum team produced and performed the instrumental parts, connecting every note to the story’s emotional core.

Cardboard premiered in competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025 in the Young Audiences category. It is a film about breaking free through imagination, with a soundtrack shaped to hold the wonder, mess and magic of it all.
